What is the difference between intumescent type fire retardant paint and non-intumenscent type?

Fire retardant coatings are mainly divided into two categories: intumescent and non-intumescent.What is the difference between them?Let us talk about it.

1. Intumescent type fire retardant coatings, also known as thin coatings, are usually between 1 and 7 mm thick. When the thickness is less than 3 mm, it is called ultra-thin intumescent fire retardant coatings. Please refer to the above photos.

(1) This type of coating is based on organic resins and contains ingredients such as foaming agents and carbonizers. In the event of a fire, it can foam and expand to form a porous carbon layer that is more than ten times or even dozens of times thicker than the original coating, thereby effectively blocking the heat transfer from the external heat source to the substrate. Intumescent fire retardant coatings are often used for fire protection of steel structures and can provide a fire resistance limit of 0.5 to 2.0 hours.

(2) Its advantages are that the coating is thin, light, has good vibration resistance, and has a certain decorative effect. However, it also has some disadvantages, such as a strong odor during construction, and the coating is prone to aging, especially when it absorbs moisture and loses its intumescent properties.

(3) Its production machine is high speed dissolver, conveyor, filling machine, etc.Similar to paint making machine.Because it needs machine to solve the liquid-powder mixing question.

2. Non-intumescent fire retardant coatings, also known as thick coatings, have a coating thickness range of 7 mm to 50 mm.

(1) The main component of this coating is inorganic insulation material, which does not expand when exposed to fire, but has good thermal insulation properties. Its fire resistance limit can reach 0.5 hours to more than 3 hours.

(2) Non-expanding fire retardant coatings are generally non-flammable, non-toxic, resistant to aging, and durable, and are very suitable for use in permanent buildings. In addition, thick fire retardant coatings can be further subdivided into dry spraying construction types with mineral fibers as aggregates, and wet spraying construction types with granular materials such as expanded vermiculite and expanded perlite as the main materials.

(3) Its production equipment is similar to dry mortar equipment, the conveyor, dry powder mixer, silo, package machine, etc.
